A mermaid knits shells for snails and turtles in a blissful underwater domestic scene. A portrait of Poseidon hangs behind the sofa, while sea creatures perform tap dance routines, play basketball, and swim though a lint sea. The television plays slides of educational TV based on drawings, architecture, and sculptures of set ups I had photographed at Little Corona State Park Beach. I often taught painting and color theory classes near the tide pools and wove thoughts of a fantasy life under the sea with the conceptual notions that resulted in this piece. Slater Barron |
